By No Leith Biomass Campaign, 05-Sep-2011 22:38:00
Forth Energy are delaying on the Leith biomass proposal. First of all we were told that it would be going before City of Edinburgh Council for debate in May 2011, then they asked for an extension granted by the Council and we were told it would be debated in December 2011. Now we're hearing that it will be some time in 2012. They are going ahead with Rosyth first, then Grangemouth, and then presumably Dundee.
But nobody should be fooled into thinking that the Leith proposal has gone away. for good. It will be back. Forth Energy have plenty of money to hire 'expert' consultants. They will no doubt come up with a revised plan that - they hope - may make the proposed biomass plant seem more acceptable. They are no doubt talking to the Council and the Scottish Government behind the scenes.
Meanwhile, Forth Energy are paying big PR dollars to reinvent themselves and change their image. They have revamped their web site so that - absurdly - they now seem to be claiming to be the green saviours of us all. They are publishing glossy brochures and burbling poetically about 'Renewable Rosyth' and 'Greener Grangemouth'. Do they really think they can con people so easily?
